CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Walmart Supercenter located at 3050 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. was evacuated at around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 21.

Customers who were inside the store at the time were asked to exit, though they were allowed back in at around 2:11 p.m.

Walmart’s Director of Communications, Tricia Moriarty, said a gas leak was detected within an HVAC unit on the building’s roof.

“We presume that it could have been because of the heavy ice and snow,” she said.

A small fire was discovered on the roof but was quickly extinguished by firefighters at the scene.

Firefighters and officials from Clarksville Gas and Water inspected the damage and cleared the store to be reopened shortly after the incident.

No injuries were reported.
