CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A man severely injured in a June 25 apartment fire on Duncan Street died Wednesday and his wife has now been charged with arson, according to Fire Marshal Ray Williams.

Alfred Ghannam, 36, had been burned on over 95 percent of his body and was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center’s burn unit in critical condition. Williams confirmed that Ghannam died from his injuries Wednesday.

His wife, 28-year-old Amber Ghannam, was not injured.

According to Williams, “the house reeked of gasoline” and a gas can was discovered inside the residence. It is believed that gasoline was a contributing factor in the fire.

The bedroom where the fire started sustained the most damage, with minor smoke damage reported in the kitchen and living room. The ceiling collapsed in the bedroom, but the fire did not reach the roof.

Due to suspicious circumstances, the fire was investigated as arson. The investigation led to the arrest of Amber Ghannam on Wednesday. She has been charged with arson and her bond was set at $75,000.
