In Clarksville, minutes matter and lives depend on it.
Just ask Mary Ann Connell, whose husband, Chip, a retired firefighter and local farmer, showed signs of a stroke while cooking dinner earlier this year. Thanks to her quick thinking and a rapid medical response, Chip was airlifted from Clarksville to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where stroke specialists performed a life-saving thrombectomy.
The road to recovery wasn’t easy. It involved intensive care, weeks of rehabilitation and relearning basic tasks. But with high-quality care and relentless determination, Chip is back to fishing and planning a cruise with Mary Ann. That story could have ended very differently if time or distance had gotten in the way.
It’s stories like theirs that show why the proposed TriStar Clarksville Hospital is not just a smart investment, but also a lifesaving necessity.

On May 30, TriStar Health, part of HCA Healthcare, announced plans to build the $286 million, full-service acute care hospital on Tiny Town Road, in in the heart of one of the fastest-growing cities in the state. Clarksville is projected to surpass 200,000 residents by 2028, yet it still has only one acute care hospital. That’s a stark contrast to Chattanooga, a city of nearly identical size that has 11 hospitals.
This proposed hospital would immediately add 68 much-needed beds, with the infrastructure and planning in place to expand to 224 beds. Planned services include:
- 12-bed emergency room
- 42-bed Medical/Surgical Unit
- 8-bed Intensive Care Unit
- 10-bed Labor and Delivery Unit
- 8-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level 2)
- 4 operating rooms
- 2 cardiac catheterization labs
- Imaging services, including MRI
- Inpatient dialysis
The proposed TriStar Clarksville Hospital is about equity in access, readiness in emergencies and compassionate, expert care closer to home.
The impact goes beyond healthcare delivery. The hospital will bring 200 new jobs to the region, spur economic development and strengthen Clarksville’s reputation as a thriving, family-friendly community. TriStar Health will look to strengthen and modernize Clarksville’s entire health ecosystem.
TriStar Health already plays a vital role in the region through its collaboration with Blanchfield Army Community Hospital at Fort Campbell, offering education, trauma care partnerships and support to both active-duty soldiers and veterans. With HCA Healthcare recognized as a “Best for Vets” employer five years in a row, this investment will deepen TriStar Health’s long-standing commitment to Clarksville’s military and veteran families.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts put it best: “Their investment will result in expanded healthcare options for our citizens and Fort Campbell families.”
Because when your city is one of the fastest-growing in America, your healthcare system should grow with it.
With TriStar Clarksville Hospital, Clarksville doesn’t just get a new hospital, it gets a stronger, safer and healthier future.
