There are so many insurance options out there, it can be difficult to choose what company to work with and determine whether you need a local agent. It’s important to remember the agent is just essential as the company.

Sometimes it’s easier just to sign-up online or call an 800 number, but by doing this, it may be to your disadvantage. It is the responsibility of the insurance professional to educate you on their products, coverage options and foreseeable complications that may occur because of your decision. It is also imperative that you have a good idea of how your policy works to prevent unforeseen obstacles when you need to file a claim.

Ask yourself these questions:

-Do you truly understand the coverage on your policy and when to use it?

-When was the last time your insurance agent called you to see how ‘life’ is going and if there are any changes needed to your policy?

-Does your insurance agent complete annual reviews with you BEFORE your policy is set to renew?
-Have you had someone to guide in you in making insurance decisions based on your financial status?

Your insurance agent should be more than just an online submission, telephone call or the person that writes up and files the paperwork, they should be your ‘Trusted Advisor.”

A trusted advisor takes the time to get to know their families that are being protected, their needs, financial situation and top priorities.

Has this been you experience?

Insurance is an important piece that ties in with your financial situation and planning. Life is full of changes which, in turn, causes your insurance needs to constantly change as well. If you’ve been with the same company for quite a while, it’s a good idea to research other companies to ensure that your current policy is truly the best one for you and your family. I suggest doing this every 5 years. (Don’t shop around too often! It CAN hurt you by doing so!)

And remember, not only is the value of the insurance company that’s important, but the “Trusted Advisor” is what is going to make the difference to help ensure you’ve got the protection you need when it comes time to file a claim.
