CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Almost all Montgomery County offices will be on the ballot in May 2026 for the county primary, including mayor, sheriff and the entire County Commission.
Here are the offices on the primary ballot, along with their terms in office and current office-holders:
- County Mayor (4-year term), currently Wes Golden.
- County Commission (all 21 districts, 4-year terms). Click here for the commissioners and district map.
- General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge, Division V (new position, 8-year term), not yet filled.
- Chancellor, Part II (new position, 8-year term), currently Kimberly Lund.
- Sheriff (4-year term, Republican ballot only), currently John Fuson.
- County Trustee (4-year term, Republican ballot only), currently Kimberly Wiggins.
- Circuit Court Clerk (4-year term, Republican ballot only), currently Wendy Davis.
- County Clerk (4-year term, Republican ballot only), currently Teresa Cottrell.
- Register of Deeds (4-year term, Republican ballot only), currently Julie Chadwick Runyon.
- School Board (Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7, for 4-year terms). Current office holders are 1: Carol Berry, 3: Kent Griffy, 5: Jimmie Garland, and 7: Aron Maberry. Click here for the district map.
For several county official races, only the Montgomery County Republican Party will hold primaries. The Montgomery County Democratic Party has not requested primaries for Sheriff, Trustee, Circuit Court Clerk, County Clerk or Register of Deeds, according to Elections Administrator Amanda Joslin.
What’s next for Montgomery County Primary
Here are the candidate deadlines:
- First day to issue petitions: Dec. 22.
- Qualifying deadline: Feb. 19, noon.
- Withdrawal deadline: Feb. 26, noon.
- Sheriff deadline with POST: Feb. 5.
- Voter registration deadline: April 6.
- Early voting April 15-30.
- Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 5.
The primary winners will face one another, along with independent candidates, in the August general election.
