CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – West Creek High student-athlete Leilyn Mercado has been nominated as the Tennessee Titans representative for the Latino Excellence in Youth Football award, West Creek High announced on Wednesday. She is one of just 32 student athletes in the nation being recognized.

Mercado is a two-sport athlete at West Creek High School, as she plays forward for the Coyote’s girls’ soccer team, and linebacker/ defensive back for Coyote’s flag football team, who has appeared in two consecutive county championship games.

As part of the Titans’ celebration of Latino Heritage Month, Leilyn will be recognized at the Titans’ regular season game this Sunday, Sept. 15, when the team goes up against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

“This truly means a lot to me,” Mercado told Clarksville Now. “I never thought I’d get this opportunity ever, but I’m honored, and I love showing out for my people.”
