CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – West Creek point guard Kameron Bowers produced at a high level during the week of Dec. 5th, earning him Clarksville Now Player of the Week honors.
Bowers had a key role in the Coyotes’ production during the team’s three games from last week. He is one reason they were victorious in two of the three games played.
West Creek’s first game was away against Kenwood on Monday, Dec. 5. The freshman point guard showed his potential as a facilitator in the Coyotes’ win, posting 13 points and dishing out 5 assists.
West Creek then traveled to Dickson County High to take on the Cougars later in the week on Friday, Dec. 9. Bowers dropped 18 points and added 2 assists enroute to their 79-77 win.
The West Creek point guard next scored 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds during the Coyotes’ final game of the week against South Warren. The Coyotes lost 50-60 Saturday, Dec. 10.
Bowers finished the week averaging 16 points per game.
2022-23 season
West Creek Head Coach Russell Malone said the Coyotes coaching staff played Bowers during their opening game of the season to see how he’d fit in the rotation. His stat line suggested he was a great fit. Bowers finished their first game with 17 points, 7 assists, 8 steals and 2 blocks.
Now, the freshman is leading the team with 15 PPG. Bowers is scoring efficiently as well, shooting around 55% from the field.
In addition, Bowers has showcased his potential as a perimeter defender, averaging 2.1 steals per contest.
Coaches corner
“Two things come to mind when thinking about what Kameron brings to this team,” said Malone. “As a freshman, he doesn’t exhibit any fear when playing at the varsity level. We knew early on that he would get the opportunity to play and dress varsity.
“After looking over our personnel, we figured we’d give him a shot to start the year. He worked and he earned it, and it turned out to be a good fit. Following his performance, I looked over at my assistant and said, ‘I think he just made his case.’ Now we have no option but to play him.
“The second thing that has been visibly noticeable, probably more so by me than anyone else, is that he’s a highly intelligent player that pays attention to the details surrounding the game. He does it when we’re watching film, going through game prep or getting ready prior to tip off; it’s interesting to see a freshman be like that,” said Malone.
“Usually, it’s your seniors who have been through the wars that do that. Not only is he listening to us along the way and making mental notes, but you can see how intentional he is to carry out those tips.”
West Creek’s next game is scheduled for Jan. 1. The Coyotes will host Cheatham County Central.
