CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Centerstone Weems Academy, a school for youth with emotional and behavioral problems, took learning outdoors when students participated in Clarksville’s seventh consecutive Operation Serve on September 29.
The students worked on improving a playground for the neighborhood children, including pressure washing equipment, putting in new rubber edging, replacing the pea gravel, adding two picnic tables and planting flowers and shrubs.
Sponsored by Grace Community Church and the City of Clarksville’s Office of Housing and Community Development, this annual event focuses on minor and major housing rehabilitation projects within the city. More than 1,000 volunteers participated this year and all materials were paid for by a grant through the City’s Community Development Block Grant program, funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
