CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – While it is theoretically possible that Clarksville will get 15 inches of snow this weekend, it isn’t likely. The National Weather Service said we could get a wintry mix Sunday, and people need to keep an eye on the forecast for the next few days.
“I know a lot of people have probably seen those snowfall maps of enormous 12-plus-inch bullseyes across northwest Middle Tennessee, but I want to caution people that that is just one deterministic model that occurred one time in one model run. There are 60-plus other solutions out there,” Krissy Hurley, NWS warning coordination meteorologist told Clarksville Now.
“I just want people to be cautious about what they see on social media.”
So, what is going to happen?
“It looks like we have another storm system coming in to the Midstate, and it’s going to start out as rain on Saturday,” Hurley said. “But that cold air is going to come in and if we can time it right with the moisture still over the state, some places could see some wintry precipitation on Sunday.”
The rain should change over to snow Saturday night into Sunday, with snow beginning to stick through Sunday evening. Travel could become hazardous Saturday night through Sunday
night, according to an NWS advisory.
“There is a lot of model disagreement about what locations are going to see the highest amounts or lowest amounts” of snow, she said. “Unfortunately, that is pretty common here in Middle Tennessee, that even though we are four days out from this event, it’s still pretty unclear. … Right now it does look like the northern half of Middle Tennessee has the best chances to see accumulating snowfall.”
Everything depends on whether the moisture is still in the area when temperatures begin to fall, she said.
“Pay attention to the forecast. We know some locations are going to get snow, and we will refine those forecasts as the days get closer to Sunday.”
