CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Take a step back in time this weekend with the Surrender of Clarksville, or through Motown music. You can also get a cool bowl at a benefit for local hunger relief.

Surrender of Clarksville: A living history event to commemorate the surrender of Clarksville and Fort Defiance to Union soldiers in 1862. Outside activities will include cannon-firing demonstrations, all at Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center, 120 Duncan St. The free event is Saturday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dreamgirls: Inspired by Motown and R&B legends of the 1960s and ’70s, the musical “Dreamgirls” follows the rising stardom of the Dreamettes, an all-girl singing trio from Chicago. The musical continues this weekend at 7 p.m. Friday, 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for 10 and younger at the Roxy Regional Theatre, 100 Franklin St.

Empty Bowls Clarksville: The 15th annual Empty Bowls Clarksville supports Loaves & Fishes and Clarksville Area Urban Ministries. A ticket gets you a simple meal of soup and bread plus a hand-painted bowl, to represent hunger in our community. Tickets are $15 each and will be sold in person at the churches or online. The event will be at eight local churches over five days, starting on Sunday:

  • Sunday, Feb. 19, 4:30-7 p.m.: Gateway Christian.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Trinity Episcopal and Grace Lutheran.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 21, 4:30-7 p.m.: First Presbyterian and Sango United Methodist.
  • Thursday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: New Providence United Methodist.
  • Saturday, Feb. 25, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Hilldale United Methodist, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
