CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Several events are happening this weekend to help open our eyes – on issues of racial justice, women’s rights and the importance of nature.
NAACP Martin Luther King Jr. Day March: The 25th annual Commemorative March will be at noon on Monday, Jan. 16, starting at Burt Elementary School, 110 Bailey St., on Austin Peay State University’s campus. The route goes through downtown and back to the school. The march is hosted to show solidarity in the Clarksville community of the ideals of Dr. King, how all of humanity has benefitted from the efforts of this great civil rights leader, and how living the dream in precept and practice means truly living it together. Several other events are planned for MLK Day weekend.
Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues: It’s opening weekend for this series of monologues about women and performed by women, which is back for the 20th year at the Roxy Regional Theatre, 100 Franklin St. Shows are at 7 p.m. Jan. 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21. Tickets are $30.
Art in Nature: These programs by Montgomery County Parks and Recreation are offered at Rotary Park, 2308 Rotary Park Drive. This weekend, “Scientific Illustration: Learn to build a bridge between science and art by practicing various drawing techniques.” The program will be Friday, Jan. 13. Youth: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Adults: 1:30-2:30 p.m. It’s free, but registration is required online.
