CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – This weekend you can enjoy a Motown musical, a Polar Plunge or historical insights. Here are your top picks for this weekend in Clarksville.
Dreamgirls: Inspired by Motown and R&B legends of the 1960s and ’70s, the musical “Dreamgirls” follows the rising stardom of the Dreamettes, an all-girl singing trio from Chicago. The musical opens Saturday at 8 p.m. and continues through Feb. 25. Opening night will be pay-what-you-can; otherwise, tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for 10 and younger at the Roxy Regional Theatre, 100 Franklin St.
Polar Bear Plunge: Clarksville Parks & Recreation will hosting this event, with proceeds going to the free swim lessons program. Registration has closed, but you can still pay at the gate to take the plunge. Plunging is $20 per individual or $60 for teams of four, all for a good cause. It’s 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Swan Lake Swimming Pool, 2002 Sanders Road.
Life as a USCT: The Mt. Olive Cemetery Historical Preservation Society presents stories and life experiences of the United States Colored Troops, including those interred at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The free presentation will be at Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive Center, 120 Duncan St., on Saturday at 1 p.m.
