CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- April 1, 2020 is Census Day.

The Census records where people live on a particular date: Census Day, April 1, 2020.

No matter when you respond to the Census, it’s asking for where you resided on Census Day.

The 2020 United States Census will be the twenty-fourth United States Census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, will be April 1, 2020. This is the first U.S. census to offer options to respond online or by phone, in addition to the option to respond on a paper form as with previous censuses

Usually after April 1, field workers visit those who haven’t completed the Census.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  the U.S. Census Bureau is suspending 2020 Census field operations for two additional weeks to April 15, 2020. The Census Bureau is taking this step to help protect the health and safety of the American public, Census Bureau employees, and everyone who will go through the hiring process for temporary census taker positions.

The 2020 Census is open for self-response online at 2020Census.gov, over the phone by calling the number provided in your invitation, and by paper through the mail.

Participating in the census is required by law. A complete and accurate count is critical for you and your community, because the results of the 2020 Census will affect community funding, congressional representation, and more.
