CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Storms moving into Middle Tennessee on Thursday could bring damaging straight line winds, tornadoes and flash flooding.

The potential for storms is highest between 2 and 10 p.m. Thursday, and the alert area includes Montgomery and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm will bring 2 to 4 inches or rain or more, according to NWS. The possibility for tornadoes is highest in the 2 to 6 p.m. time frame, with damaging winds more likely in the evening.

“Storms have the potential of becoming prolific damaging wind producers causing widespread tree damage and power outages,” the NWS said. “In addition, tornadoes will be possible. Outdoor events may need additional lead time to enact safety procedures due to fast storm motions and significant impacts.”

Residents are advised to get ready ahead of time for severe weather.

“Make sure you and your family have a plan in place to take shelter ahead of time. Don’t wait until storms are bearing down on you,” the NWS said.

“Additionally, strong wind gusts are still the highest threat. Don’t ignore Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued for your area. Treat them the same as you would a Tornado Warning.”

For local severe weather alerts, tune in to radio stations Beaver 100.3, Q108, Z97.5, Rewind 94.3 and NewZee 105.5.
