CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With a heat index on Wednesday up to 110 degrees, a Heat Advisory has been issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties.

The advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect from 11 a.m. today through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Clarksville, the high today will be 91 degrees, with a heat index reaching 99. On Wednesday, that rises to a high near 98 with a heat index of 11o.

“Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur,” the NWS said.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”

Anyone who has to work outside should take extra precautions.

“Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.”

The heat will stay around for a while, with the high 95 or higher through the weekend, reaching 99 on Saturday.
