Update, 5:07 p.m.: A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Montgomery County, and that advisory is in effect until 8:15 p.m.
The local areas that might be impacted include Dover, Erin, Tennessee Ridge, Cumberland City, Indian Mound and Palmyra.
At 5:07 p.m., National Weather Service radars were tracking a strong thunderstorm near Dover, moving east at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing winds in excess of 40 mph, according to an alert from the NWS.
“Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas,” the alert said.
The alert also advised that drivers turn around when encountering flooded roads, as most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Those in low-lying areas are also encouraged to move to higher ground.
In addition to Montgomery, a Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Stewart, Houston and Dickson counties.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Flash Flood Watch has been extended for Montgomery County through midnight Saturday.
The Flash Flood Watch advisory has been in effect since 1 a.m Saturday, and was issued Friday evening.
More storms could come through the area Saturday night, which could produce an additional one to two inches of rain according an alert from the National Weather Service.
“A total of (eight) to 14 inches of rain has fallen in portions of the Flash Flood Watch, causing catastrophic flooding,” the NWS alert said. “Additional rainfall in areas where significant flooding is still occurring will exacerbate the flash flood threat.”
An emergency Flash Flood Warning was issued for Houston, Hickman, Humphreys and Dickson counties, where heavy rains have created dangerous situations in low-lying areas.
“Flash flooding has washed out roads, inundated homes and businesses, and led to numerous water rescues,” the NWS alert continued.
The Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the following counties: Bedford, Cheatham, Dickson, Giles, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lawrence, Lewis, Marshall, Maury, Perry, Stewart, Wayne and Williamson.
