CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Silke Tyler, who is the owner of Silke’s Old World Breads Bakery and Café, has been painting in watercolor for 26 years and has recently begun teaching classes to the public at her café after operating hours. Her next series of introductory classes, Watercolor I, begin on Thursday, May 14 and will run for six sessions, through June 18. Classes occur each Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. They range in size from five to nine students so that Tyler can give individualized instruction as needed.

The fee for six sessions is $210, which is due this Friday, May 8. To purchase a class series, go to the web link at www.silkesart.com/pricing.html.

I took the last series of introductory watercolor classes – the first such classes I have taken in 20 years – and enjoyed learning new techniques. I also had fun with other students, who were supportive of each other’s work.

“It is meant to be a fun class, definitely,” says Tyler. “It’s really more about the joy of creating, rather than about creating masterpieces. And anybody at any level can join in; there’s no prior knowledge required and you do not necessarily have to have artistic skill.”

The classes are open to ages 16 and older and the maximum class size is 10 people, so that Tyler can work one-one-one with her pupils. They will take place at 1214A College Street.

To find out more, email Tyler at silkesart@gmail.com. A supply sheet will be provided so that students can buy supplies before the class begins.

Tyler got her degree in art and design in 1988 from a university in Germany, where she was born. Her paintings – including an architecturally-correct depiction of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center – are detailed and filled with light.
