CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Mandatory water restrictions remain in effect for Clarksville and are likely to continue until at least this evening.
The restrictions were ordered because of a break in a 30-inch water transmission line on Ashland City Road in the early morning hours on Monday, Jan. 16, according to Clarksville Gas & Water spokesperson Rhonda Fulton. Because of that restriction, CMCSS schools were closed on Tuesday.

CGW crews have made the line repair and the next steps will be to pressurize the line to test it, and then flush and test lines, she said Tuesday afternoon. The complete work is expected to be finished Tuesday evening, which is when the process will begin to restore the water supply.
“Our construction crews and water system staff have worked tirelessly around the clock on the line repair, and I applaud them for their diligence,” said Gas & Water General Manager Mark Riggins in a news release. “I also express my appreciation to the citizens of Clarksville for adhering to the mandatory water restrictions and I kindly ask for their continued cooperation until further notice.”
The mandatory restrictions include:
- Restrict operation of ornamental fountains or ponds to initial filling except where necessary to support aquatic life or where such fountains or ponds are equipped with a recirculation system.
- Prohibit recreational water use including use of faucets, hoses or hydrants, which uses water in such a manner as to allow run-off or other wastes.
- Prohibit washing of any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle. Vehicle washing may be done at any time on the immediate premises of a commercial car wash or commercial service station. Further, such washing may be exempted from these regulations if the health, safety, and welfare of the public is contingent upon frequent cleansing, such as garbage trucks and vehicles used to transport food and perishables.
- Encourage further reduction in frequency of draining and refilling swimming pools.
- Prohibit hosing off paved areas, buildings, windows or other surfaces.
Clarksville’s water is safe to drink, and at the time of this notice there were no reported water outages; however, some areas of Clarksville including the Kirkwood and Hilldale areas are still experiencing low water pressure.
