CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville woman was arrested after allegedly leading a deputy on a high-speed chase and crashing the vehicle with three young children inside.
According to an arrest warrant, the deputy saw a vehicle pass him on Greenwood Avenue and pick up a man who was running down the street. When he ran the tag on the dark blue Chevy Tahoe, it came back as a gold Mercury. He turned around to pull over the vehicle, but it had already left the location.
About 15 minutes later, the deputy saw the vehicle again on Greenwood Avenue and turned on his emergency lights.
The vehicle then sped up and ran a stop sign. The deputy followed the vehicle, which reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour in mostly residential areas during the chase. The vehicle also ran several more stop signs and passed other vehicles in no passing zones.
The vehicle eventually hit a light pole at Washington Street and Greenwood Avenue. When the deputy got out of his patrol car and ordered the occupants to exit the vehicle, the driver reversed and fled the scene again.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed at Central Avenue and Woodward Street. The deputy saw two women get out of the front seat. He said they were not obeying commands from any of the officers on scene.
The driver, later identified as 26-year-old Jasmine Campbell, pulled two infant children from the backseat of the vehicle. Another young child was also in the back.
A man Campbell called “Scoot” was seen running from the crash scene. He was later arrested and identified as Lezzeunna May-Cousan. He had a felony grand larceny warrant out of Harrison County, MS.
The other woman in the vehicle was not identified in the arrest warrant. The warrant also did not indicate whether anyone was injured.
Campbell was charged with reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, felony evading arrest, and driving on a revoked license. Her bond was set at $92,500.
Court records show that her case has been bound over to the Montgomery County Grand Jury.
