Hundreds of people in need, homeless, and financially struggling families in the community gathered at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center Christmas eve to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
Along with a holiday meal there was free clothing, toys, and household goods for everyone in need. Haircuts by professional stylists and Christmas family portraits were also part of the Warm Souls Christmas celebration. Live music was provided by a number of artists including local singer-songwriter Lydia Walker.
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan spoke to the crowd just before they enjoyed their holiday meal and thanked everyone involved with Warm Souls Christmas. The Clarksville Transit System was also part of the event offering free transportation to and from the event through the transit center downtown.
According to Frank Newman, one of the coordinators of this year’s Warm Souls Christmas, there were around 900 people in attendance, around 600 volunteers and close to 80 organizations, churches and businesses pitched in to make the event a success. “Until I seen this happen it’s the first time I visually seen God’s work being done and it has totally changed my life,” said Newman.
