CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Wanda Smith has announced she is running for re-election to the Clarksville City Council in Ward 6.

Smith was born and raised in Clarksville and is a 1976 graduate of Clarksville High School. She has served on the council for eight years and is currently mayor pro tem.

She said she has coordinated and spearheaded various community functions, such as the Emancipation Day Celebration, a parade, communitywide informative conferences, community meetings, and voters’ drives. Smith has volunteered with Manna Café and the Old Firehouse Day Shelter, and she served as the first Black lady chaplain at the Montgomery County Jail. She served as liaison/support staff after the 1999 tornado.

“I am gifted with the passion to serve and advocate for all people. I believe that there is one race: the human race. With this, I desire to continue my efforts to make Clarksville the No. 1 diverse place to live, worship, work and enjoy the treasures of life for all,” Smith said.

“Additionally, I will continue to advocate for amenities that will bring in great revenue, one being a large water park and an amusement park so that families, APSU, soldiers and citizens can have a staycation instead of leaving the city for a vacation. Also, I hope Clarksville will bring in more large companies with high-paying jobs and great benefits.

“I love helping people and the city reach their goals and dreams. And I believe that teamwork makes the dream work.”

Ward 6 encompasses Madison Street, North and South Riverside Drive, Kraft Street, Paradise Hill Road and Crossland Avenue.
