CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Early voting for the Tennessee State Primary (Republican and Democratic), and the Montgomery County General Election opens Friday, July 17 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 1.
To cast your ballot for early voting, you will need to go to the Montgomery County Election Commission Office in Veterans Plaza at 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 404 which is two doors down from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library.
You do not need a reason to vote early, but all voters must present a Tennessee state or federal issued ID, even if expired, whether voting early or on Election Day.
Administrator of Elections for Montgomery County, Elizabeth Black said with restrictions because of the COVID-19 pandemic her office will look a bit different for early voting.
“We will have our lines spaced the 6 feet apart that has been recommended which will limit the number of people we can let into the lobby at a time so be prepared if you have to wait outside. We will also hand voters a pen and a wooden craft stick when they come in the door,” Black said.
Black added that the pen will be used to sign the voter’s application and it is the voter’s to keep. The craft stick will be used to push the buttons on the voting machine which will allow touchless voting.
All of the staff at the Election Commission Office will be wearing masks, and they recommend the public also wear masks. They are asking that when they come to vote they only bring those family members or others who are voting.
Montgomery County is in need of citizens to serve as poll officials for the Aug. 6 election. Poll officials are compensated for working on election day and for any required training sessions. All poll officials will be provided with personal protective equipment for COVID-19. For more information n becoming a poll official call 931-648-5707.
