CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Dozens of volunteers gathered Friday morning at the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s Central Services South facility on Hwy 48/13 to kick off the Prepped for Success project.
The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region, and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation have partnered for Prepped for Success to help the more than 10,000 students who are considered economically disadvantaged.
Prepped for Success is a large scale, community-wide initiative to give school supplies to students whose parents are unable to afford the basic supplies to start school.
Friday and Saturday more than 300 volunteers from businesses, organizations as well as individuals from the community will stuff around 10,000 bags with a wide range of school supplies. Director of Schools Millard House II said there are about 900 homeless students in the county and talked about the importance of being prepared for school.
“When you have individuals that don’t have a life like many of us, it puts them in a situation where they may not be prepared for that first day of school. For us to come together with our time, our talent, our resources, and put together a program like this is going to make a huge difference,” House said.
Gold Level sponsors for the program are Altra Federal Credit Union, Planters Bank, Fortera Credit Union and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Action Agency.
Silver Level sponsors are First Advantage Bank, F&M Bank, Regions Bank, New Car Dealers Association of Clarksville and Wyatt Johnson Automotive
Bronze Level sponsors include Bridgestone Metalpha USA, Cornerstone Financial Credit Union, Rufus Johnson Associates, City of Clarksville and Montgomery County.
The United Way presented Fortera Credit Union with the Volunteer Workplace Award, a large inflatable crayon, for the highest number of volunteers which was 43.
