CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Montgomery County Health Council is getting ready to paint the new public-art crosswalks at both the Crossland Avenue and Pageant Lane entrances to Veterans Plaza, and they could use some extra hands.
They are organizing a Community Paint Day for Saturday, Oct. 24, starting at 8:30 a.m., with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 25, starting at 9 a.m. to paint the Crossland Avenue entrance.
Volunteers will meet at the Crossland Avenue entrance to Veterans Plaza. That entrance will be closed to vehicles during the project, so volunteers should enter and park using the Pageant Lane entrance.
Artists and volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, to paint the Pageant Lane entrance crosswalk, with a rain date of Sunday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m.
No art or painting experience is needed. Artists Jackie Lewis, Annalee Parker and Carmen Rein, whose submitted design was selected by the county, will be there to guide the project and show volunteers what to do. They will need help with painting, preparing the area, carrying supplies, cleanup, and other tasks throughout the morning.
If you have painting supplies you are willing to bring or loan, that will also help us stretch our grant dollars. Useful items include 1/2-inch nap roller covers, roller frames and extension poles, paint trays and liners, stiff synthetic paint brushes in various sizes, clean gallon paint containers, handheld paint pails, 5-gallon bucket pour spouts, roller grids, battery-operated leaf blowers, stiff brooms, rags, and gloves.
Professional painters who are willing to loan equipment that makes working from five-gallon paint buckets easier would be especially appreciated.
The project will provide the approved traffic paint and will purchase the supplies we need, so please come even if you are not able to donate or bring anything.
