Vivian G. Miller, age 92, of Clarksville, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Gateway Medical Center.
She was born in Sparland, IL, to the late Cifford Charles Gibbs and Mary Ethel Watkins Gibbs. Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, C. Mell Miller, Jr.; three sisters, Ester, Lois, and Lillian; and daughter-in-law, Linda F. Miller.
Vivian is surived by two sons, Glenn (Betty) Miller, of Clarksville, and Allen Miller, of Nashville; two grandchildren, Cliff Nicholson and Stephen Nicholson; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at Madison Street United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cliff Wright, Laurie Hynson, and Terrell Marcom officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, and from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the church.
Family and friends served as Pallbearers.
Vivian was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Choir, as well as a former member of Sango United Methodist Church.
She attained a Bachelor of Music degree, a Master of Music Education, from Illinois Wesleyan University, as well as 47 Post MA hours at Austin Peay State University, University of Memphis, Middle Tennessee State University, and George Peabody College. Vivian was a member of the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity for over 70 years, during which time she held many offices.
Mrs. Miller taught in three Illinois townships for six years. After moving to Tennessee, she taught music in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System for over 30 years, at Moore and Barksdale Elementary Schools. She also taught private students in their homes and at her studio, for over 60 years.
