Mrs. Virgie Virginia Mallory, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on November 5, 2024, at Tennova Hospital in Clarksville, TN.

Born on October 29, 1925, in Memphis, TN, she was 99 years old at the time of her passing, having lived a life full of love, resilience, and devotion.

Virgie was married to the late James Rudolph Mallory Sr. for over 50 wonderful years, a union that blessed them with eleven children. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving children: Andrew Mallory (Loretta) of Elyria, OH; Dr. Joe Ann Mallory Burgess (Arthur) of Tallahassee, FL; Maggie Mallory Varner of Huntsville, AL; Jeanett Mallory Price (Vincent) of Gaithersburg, MD; Deanna Mallory Haywood of Clarksville, TN; Homer Lee Mallory of Clarksville; Comer Lee Mallory of Clarksville; and Tammy Mallory Hall of Brooklyn, NY. Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, James, and three of their beloved children: Oliva Mallory Evans, Joe Bryant Mallory, and James Rudolph Mallory Jr. Her legacy lives on through her family, including 30 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 69+ great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mallory was known for her deep love of family and friends, her unwavering faith, and her devotion to the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Titans. As a member of Trenton Crossing Church of Christ for over 60 years, she served her congregation and community with grace and dedication. Those who knew her best often remarked on her warm kindness and the steady, guiding strength she provided to those around her.

Despite marrying young, Virgie Mallory built an impressive career. She began working at Hooks Drug Store in Indianapolis (1941-1943) before moving back to Clarksville, where she was employed as a domestic worker from 1943 to 1960. Following this, she achieved her beautician’s license and worked as a hairstylist until 1972. Ever industrious, she became a regular vendor at the Clarksville Farmer’s Market until 1983. After the passing of her husband, she returned to work in 1989, serving as a Foster Grandparent for the Headstart program until her retirement in 2010.

Mrs. Mallory’s Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Trenton Crossing Church of Christ, 2650 Trenton Road, Clarksville, TN. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with services to follow. The interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens after the repast.

Her spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on through the countless lives she touched.

Arrangements are in the care of Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home.
