CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) With Memorial Day coming up Monday, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 396 in Clarksville, will hold their annual Vietnam Veterans Candlelight Vigil, Sunday, May 27 at 7 p.m. at Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane.
The vigil has been held each year since 1989 to help remember the POWs/MIAs from Tennessee. A roll call is carried out and an empty chair is placed in the hope that one day they will return.
Along with a candle being lit for each veteran as their name is called, a bell is tolled, and a veteran will say, “gone but not forgotten.” Across the U.S. there are around 1,300 veterans from the Vietnam War that are not accounted for.
Guest speaker will be Joe Pitts, Tennessee State Representative for the 67th District.
The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization (VSO) will also be hosting its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m., Monday at the William O’ Beach Civic Hall in Veterans Plaza.
