CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Control discovered two dogs in distress Thursday after flood waters left them trapped in their yards.
In the first case, Animal Control Officer Gustwiller received a call regarding a dog submerged in water near Golf Club Lane. The officer found an older Bloodhound-type dog that was chained and unable to escape the water.
The dog was impounded and a notice was left on the property for the owners to contact Animal Control immediately.

In a separate case the same day, Officer Gustwiller responded to a call near Sandpiper Dr. A merle-colored Lab mix was found on the end of a chain in deep water. The dog was impounded and a notice was left for the owners.
Upon examination of the dog, fly strike injuries were discovered on the dog’s ears.

Both dogs have been placed under protective custody and criminal charges are expected.
Montgomery County Animal Care and Control would like to remind the public about the dangers of chaining a pet as well as remind the public that Montgomery County has an anti-chaining ordinance.
