WOODLAWN, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Soldiers of Crusher Company from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team ‘Rakkasans’ of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell volunteered their services at Woodlawn Park on the morning of Thursday, August 9, as the park was suffering erosion at one of its drainage ditches.
Having become a mess of mud, the drainage ditch was in need of new stones and rocks in order to prevent water buildup. The soldiers of Crusher Company offered to assist lining the ditch with large rocks to alleviate this problem.
The captain of Crusher Company, Harrison Smith, said, “Everything we do is about the American people, and so there’s really nothing better that we can do than get out to the local community and serve.”
On his company’s desire to serve the people, Smith elaborated that they had been looking for a project for a while, and that the Woodlawn Park opportunity arose when they got in touch with the American Red Cross.
Smith also joked that their volunteer work at Woodlawn Park would be a good team building exercise for the infantry company, adding, “We’re just really grateful for this opportunity to come out [and] do some service as a company…It’s a great opportunity to serve.”
