Before he passed, Barcarella told police and first responders that he had come to the residence to pick up a cell phone from the mailbox, but it was not there. He then said he was confronted by the homeowner and told he was trespassing before being shot.
The warrant states that Barcarella told officials “he set me up.”
Barcarella died after receiving emergency medical treatment.
The suspect, 36-year-old William Buchanan, was found in the driveway with a 9mm pistol.
Buchanan told investigators that he shot Barcarella after he returned home and found him in the driveway. He said he did not hear the victim make any threats, did not see him in possession of a weapon, and was not physically assaulted by him.
William Buchanan was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide. He is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
Jayme Buchanan, 32, lives at the same address and was arrested that day for theft of property and booked on a $2,500 bond. It is unclear if her charges are related.
No further information has been released.
