CLARKSVille, Tenn. – (Clarksvillenow.com) Montgomery County officials have confirmed that a boater drowned Sunday night in the Cumberland River following the Independence Day Celebration fireworks at Liberty Park.

The person reportedly fell out of a pontoon boat, according to Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Jerry Buchanan.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told WKRN News 2 Charles Cole was attempting to pull up his anchor when he fell overboard.

The 59-year-old Goodlettsville resident was not wearing a life jacket and drowned.

Buchanan said the call came in around 10:40 Sunday evening and the body was recovered about 6:00 Monday morning by authorities.

The investigation into the drowning is being handled by TWRA officials.

This is a developing story and more details will follow when they are available.
