CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Police Department wants to warn the public about potential scams during the holiday season, including a flim-flam incident that occurred Nov. 28 near Governor’s Square Mall.

According to Officer Natalie Hall, a victim was walking toward the mall’s main entrance when he was approached by a suspect in a small black car, possibly a Honda Hybrid. The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s with small white bumps on his lips.

The victim said the man told him he had an extra Apple MacBook Pro and an Apple iPad Air that he would sell to the man for $500. These items usually sell for $3,000. The man thought the deal was too good to pass up and drove to an ATM to withdraw the cash for the items.

The suspect handed the victim a FedEx box with what appeared to be the iPad and laptop with Bust Buy labels. When the suspect left and the victim opened the box, he discovered the laptop was just a white notebook containing loose leaf paper and the iPad was a thick piece of glass wrapped in white tape.

Police searched the area but did not find the suspect.

Shoppers are urged not to purchase items from unverified sources.
