NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Vanderbilt University baseball player who drowned this past summer will be honored ahead of the school’s football game Saturday.

Donny Everett’s parents, Susan and Teddy, will present the Anchor during pregame festivities on the field before Vanderbilt takes on Middle Tennessee State University.

The Everetts will also be recognized from the field during the break between the first and second quarters for the Donny Everett Scholarship.

The scholarship was started this academic year to honor Donny.

The Commodores will wear No. 41, Donny’s jersey number, on their helmets against the Blue Raiders.

Everett tragically drowned last spring the day before the Commodores opened play in the Nashville NCAA Regional. Everett was the 2015 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and one of the highest rated players in the nation to attend college. He turned down the Milwaukee Brewers as a 29th round draft pick to join Vanderbilt.

Donny drowned in June while fishing with friends on Normandy Lake in Coffee County. The 19-year-old, of Clarksville, was laid to rest June 7.
