CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) Over the weekend, the smell of used books and coffee united and engulfed a new bookstore in the community. Humble Universe Disturbers Used Books and More (HUDUBAM) joined the resurgence of independent bookstores around the country.
“I am a book lover and know many people in our community who also love books,” said Aubrey Collins. As the owner of the used bookstore she envisions a place where local authors and book enthusiasts can congregate and exchange new ideas.
“I also wanted to provide a place where children can fall in love with reading and become lifelong lovers of books,” Collins said.
Collins was intentional about the name of the bookstore to attract individuals she calls ‘book nerds.’ The origin of the bookstore’s name is found in a poem by T.S. Eliot entitled, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Collins believes that literature can positively impact the world.
Collins had little business insight when she pursued this venture, but credits the Tennessee Small Business Development Center for her success.
“They rocket launched me to my dream. No one in my family has ever owned a business so the small business center helped me figure out what I needed to do and who to contact in the community to gain more knowledge about certain business practices. I could not have done it without them,” Collins said.
