CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLE) – As Clarksville-Montgomery County continues to deal with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Urban Ministries Grace Assistance is continuing its efforts during these trying times to help feed those who are hungry in the community.
Every Thursday Urban Ministries is giving out free food boxes between the hours of 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Madison Street United Methodist Church. It is the rear parking lot of the church located on Commerce Street.
Debbie Ashcraft, Grace Assistance Program Director, said each person or family seeking a donation of food will need to provide a photo ID and a piece of mail with their address proving they live in Montgomery County. Ashcraft also talked about what’s in the food boxes.
“We distribute 10 to 15 pounds of meat in these boxes and it ranges from chicken to pork and sometimes turkey. We also have fresh fruit, potatoes, canned vegetables, tuna fish, and rice, those staple items that help people make meals out of what we can provide them,” said Ashcraft.
Urban Ministries Grace Assistance was founded in 1984 as a ministry of Madison Street United Methodist Church. The nonprofit offers assistance with emergency food, shelter, utilities, medicine, and other services from their offices at 211 S. 3rd Street in downtown Clarksville.
Ashcraft added that, starting in August, the free food distribution will move from Thursday to Wednesday each week at the same time and same location.
