CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Urban Ministries Grace Assistance recently hosted their annual Winter Gala at First Baptist Church and over 200 people enjoyed an evening of fellowship at the event which is also a fundraiser for Urban Ministries.

Speaking to those gathered at the gala, Urban Ministries Director, Beverly Dycus, thanked her staff, the Board of Directors and volunteers for all of their hard work as well as the community for its support over the years.

“The most important thing we do is seek a relationship with those who come to us. We want to be a place where people feel loved and where somebody truly cares about them. Urban Ministries is truly blessed by those that we serve,” said Dycus.

Since 1984 Urban Ministries has opened their doors to help those in need with food, shelter, clothing, utilities, prescription medications, personal hygiene items and school supplies. Transportation needs are met through the Clarksville Transit System or assistance to buy gas for vehicles.

The organization can help the elderly or those who suffer from chronic medical conditions with heaters during the winter months or air conditioners in the summer. They also work with the local Lions Club taking applications for those in need of eyeglasses.

For individuals and families who have no resources to afford funeral services after a death, Urban Ministries works to bring local funeral homes and families together to make sure that when someone who is indigent dies, they have a funeral with dignity.

Urban Ministries also operates “Safe House”, a 24-hour emergency shelter to serve survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The organization is also looking forward to the opening of “Safe Place”, for homeless families with children in the near future.
