UPDATE: The great clown mystery has been solved. Clarksville Police posted on their facebook page that they have found the man who was spotted this morning in a clown costume. He is an older man who dresses up once a year on his birthday as a clown and hands out candy, and of course today is his birthday.

Police went to a couple of places where he frequents and they verified he was at those locations this morning dressed up as a clown. Those people confirmed he is a nice man that dresses up and is known to give out candy.

Police made contact with him and said he had been dressed up as a clown and did not mean any harm. There was also nothing that indicated to police that his actions were intentionally harmful or meant to scare anyone.

The police department is thanking those who helped them solve the mystery and locate the man.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Clarksville Police Department has posted a “Suspicious Activity” alert on their facebook page. Thursday morning around 7:30 in the area of Hayden Dr./Golf Club Ln. and Paradise Hill Rd. a couple of 5th grade students were called over to a silver or gray sedan.

A white man dressed as a clown with a white face and red nose motioned them over to the vehicle and entice them with candy. A white female was also in the vehicle which never stopped and stayed in motion. The children did not go near the vehicle and ran away.

It was reported to Clarksville Police after the children got to school and school administrators immediately made the School Resource Officer aware of what had happened. Police checked the area and did not locate the vehicle or individuals meeting the description. Police are not identifying the school for security reason and have additional units in the area.

A report was also made to police that someone saw a person coming out of a subdivision in the Rossview area in a clown costume.

The Clarksvile Police Department reminds children about “Stranger Danger” and to let an adult know immediately in a situation so law enforcement can respond.
