CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan was the first person to request an Uber in Montgomery County Thursday, March 3 as she left City Hall for lunch following the press conference about Uber coming to Clarksville.
Luke Marklin, General Manager of Uber Nashville talked about the new service. “All of the benefits Uber provides to citizens of Middle Tennessee, a safe, affordable ride at the touch of a button will now be available for all the residents in Clarksville,” said Marklin.
Marklin added, “Clarksville is a great example of a city we love with a great university, a military base, a vibrant downtown and all that makes it a city that we really wanted to expand to.”
For travel to Fort Campbell, Uber is currently in discussions with military officials to allow Uber to operate on post.
Marklin said Uber is available in the Google Play and iPhone app store to be downloaded on phones where you’ll find a sign up page to become a rider. When it comes to drivers, Uber is also in the market for more drivers in the Clarksville area.
As far as riding with Uber, Marklin added that the process of riding is 100% cashless. Riders upload a credit card or Pay Pal account when you contact Uber and everything is run through the app and through the account with no cash transaction.
When you contact Uber through the app, the photo and name of the driver along with the type of vehicle appears on your phone. Also, after the ride both the rider and the driver have the chance to rate their experience.
Mayor McMillan said she had used Uber in the past in other cities and even though the city has a fantastic public transportation system with the Clarksville Transit System there are times and areas where they are not able to provide service and Uber will now be able to fill in that gap.
