NASHVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), the Labor Day holiday marks the last major weekend of the 2019 boating season. TWRA wants to emphasize the need for safety on Tennessee waterways, including the use of life jackets.
TWRA officers will be on the watch for dangerous boating behavior over the weekend such as boating under the influence (BUI) and other reckless operation.
To date in 2019, there have been six boating-related fatalities on Tennessee waterways, 15 less than recorded at this time in 2018. There have been 36 cases of serious injury.
During the 2018 Labor Day weekend, there was a single fatality which involved a personal watercraft on Tims Ford Lake. TWRA boating officers made five boating under the influence (BUI) arrests. Officers investigated other incidents which involved seven serious injuries and three instances of property damage.
