CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A woman has been arrested after her two young children were found outside a bar by themselves March 25.
According to an arrest warrant, a witness called 911 around 9:30 after nearly hitting two small children that were in front of Rookies Sports Bar on Fort Campbell Blvd.
The officer said the children were not wearing shoes or jackets and the temperature was approximately 42 degrees at the time.
Police located the children’s mother, 24-year-old Kayla Jeanine Mason, at her home on Sevier St. The front door of the residence was open.
Mason told police she was sleeping when the children, ages 4 and 2, left the residence.
She also said similar events had occurred the past, including a call in Clarksville last October and another call last spring in Oak Grove.
Mason said she had been living on Sevier St. for a week and had not taken any precautions to keep the children from leaving. The home is located about 100 yards away from where the children were found.
Mason was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse and neglect. Her bond was set at $50,000.
