ELKTON, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Two women were killed in a head-on crash in Elkton Tuesday afternoon.

On October 30 around 1:38 p.m. Kentucky State Police received a call of a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred around the 2800 block of Pond River Road in Elkton.

Investigators determined Zackary Cannon, age 25, of Elkton, KY, was operating a 2005 Buick Rendezvous northbound on Pond River Road. For an unknown reason he left the right hand side of the roadway, overcorrected, and hit a southbound 2000 Plymouth Neon head on.

The driver of the Plymouth, Janina Watzke, age 32, of Elkton, KY, and the front seat passenger Julie Powell, age 30, of Elkton, KY, were both pronounced dead on scene by the Todd County Coroner Mike Tino-Cundiff.

The rear seat passenger of the Plymouth, a juvenile, was air lifted to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Cannon was air lifted to Skyline Hospital in Nashville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing by Sergeant Nick Rice and Trooper Matt Jordan.
