CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Two fires were reported within nearly 15 minutes of each other Sunday, January 26 in Clarksville.
According to Clarksville Fire Chief Ray Williams, the first fire was reported at 7:05 a.m. at 875 Richardson St. When firefighters arrived, the family was already out of the home, and no one was injured. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze within about 20 minutes, but the home is a total loss.
Three pets were rescued from the fire, but one was lost.
Williams said the fire originated underneath a carport, and eventually spread throughout the house.
Shortly afterward, another fire was reported at Jordan Grocery Store at 1201 Greenfield Dr., not far from the location of the first fire.
The store was not open at the time, and no one was injured. Williams said the fire was started outside, but spread through the attic area, causing parts of the ceiling to fall in. The store will be closed for an indefinite period of time.
Williams declined to say whether there is a connection between the two fires. “At this point, that would be speculation,” he said.
The Clarksville Police Department (CPD) also responded to both fires. Sgt. Johnny Ferguson injured his hand while knocking open a door to wake up neighboring residents to get them to safety, according to Officer Natalie Hall.
The causes of the fires have not been determined and are under investigation by both CPD and Clarksville Fire Rescue.
