CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The first two positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed on just the second day of school for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

“We had a confirmed positive at two different schools yesterday,” Anthony Johnson, spokesman for CMCSS, said Wednesday.

There was one positive case at a middle school and one positive case at an elementary school.

The Montgomery County Health Department or CMCSS will contact those who’ve had close contact with those who tested positive, Johnson said.

Due to privacy laws, CMCSS can’t name the school, say how many students were exposed or say whether those who tested positive were students, teachers or staff.

Families will be contacted over SchoolMessenger if there’s a school-wide or district-wide closure, and that information will also be posted on www.cmcss.net, Johnson said.

“We want to remind parents and guardians of the importance of students, staff and the community self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms prior to visiting any CMCSS facility,” Johnson said. “Additionally, it is critical that parents/guardians do not send their child to school if they are awaiting results of a COVID-19 test or are exhibiting a new onset of symptoms related to COVID-19.”

The Return to School/Work Flowchart explains how long those effected will be out of school for quarantine.
