CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) appeal for voluntary reduction in power use has ended, and electric power consumers may resume normal use of electricity.

TVA’s initial request, made on Tuesday, called for power distributors and their members to help conserve energy where possible until temperatures moderated Thursday afternoon.

TVA set an all-time daily energy record Wednesday by delivering 706,000,000 kilowatts of energy. Meeting the demand required the combined effort of TVA’s employees and generating facilities, coordination with the Valley’s 155 local power companies — including Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation — large industrial customers, and the cooperation of businesses and households to conserve.

Though the request for voluntary reduction has been lifted, CEMC encourages its members to keep thermostats at the lowest comfortable setting and to turn off lights, televisions and other appliances when not in use. Following these simple steps can help save energy and money on your power bill.
