CLARKSVILLE, TN − In honor of Veterans Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation delivered a mortgage-free home to the Clarksville family of fallen Army Sgt. Andrew “Andy” Southard.

Southard died along with four other service members on Nov. 10, 2023, when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the Mediterranean Sea. Tunnel to Towers has provided mortgage-free homes to three of the families affected by this tragedy.

Southard’s father served in the Air Force and inspired him to enlist. He joined the Army in 2015. He achieved his dream of being a 160th Blackhawk crew chief a mere six months before he lost his life. Southard is survived by his wife Ashley and their three children, Warren, Jack and Hallie.

Tunnel to Towers provided SGT Southard’s family with a new mortgage-free home in Clarksville.

“Andy loved an adventure, and my goal is to keep his legacy alive by living the way he would want us to,” said Ashley Southard. “Andy was our home, and Tunnel to Towers is providing the safety and security my family needs during this very uncertain time. Now my children and I can mourn and honor the loss of their father in a mortgage-free home.”

The Tunnel to Towers Gold Star Family Home Program honors the legacy of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country by paying off the mortgage or providing the surviving spouses and young children with mortgage-free homes.

“This Veterans Day we are honored to remember the sacrifice of our service members and the families they leave behind,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman & CEO Frank Siller. “While nothing can replace the loss of a father and husband, I hope this home gives Ashley a safe and stable place to raise their children.”
