CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The TSSAA held a meeting Wednesday to discuss contingency plans for the upcoming high school football season and also to provide an update on the progress made towards a contingency plan for the girl’s fall soccer season due to the extended COVID-19 State of Emergency that is set to expire August 29.
In a surprising development, the TSSAA announced that voting would be delayed on contingency plans for both football and girl’s soccer.
TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress relayed that there is no current timetable for a decision to be made and that another meeting with the Governor’s office would need to occur before a ruling was handed down.
“We are hoping for the best and planning for the worst,” Childress said.
With COVID-19 cases still on the rise, Childress pleaded to the public to adhere to the guidelines suggested by the CDC.
“You need to help us out,” Childress said. “People need to wear masks, social distance and wash hands. We need to get numbers down…The return on that investment is we do get to have fall sports on time this year.”
Childress also shared that the Board of Control would meet again July 22nd at 1 p.m. at Siegel High School to discuss classification.
