Can’t decide which donut to choose? Our staff offered their insight to personal favorites:

“Krispy Kreme Apple Filled Donut. It’s the original glazed donut filled with apple chunks and apple jelly. Such a refreshing fruity apple that’s not too sweet. Perfect for a hot summer day and festive all year long! Since donuts are delicious all day, it also pairs perfectly with a glass of dark roast beer. After hours of course!” – Olivia

“You cannot ever go wrong with a simple glazed donut. Soft and just baked is of course the best. It’s classic and doesn’t require any of the fancy frills.” – Jordan

“Hands down an old fashioned cake donut. I usually prefer the Shipley’s Donut version. Pair it with a fresh cup of coffee. A little donut dip into the coffee – perfection. You can’t do that with those glazed, yeast impostor donuts. Real donuts are cake donuts.” – Jessica

“Like most things, I’m a fan of the classics, and with donuts, that means a Krispy Kreme Glazed donut is my go-to. Simply put, they’re straight from heaven and practically melt in your mouth. I don’t believe there’s anything in this world that deserves the word “perfect,” but when that ‘Hot and Now light’ is on outside Krispy Kreme, those donuts may make an exception.” – Hunter

Why A Day for Donuts?

The holiday began in 1938 by Chicago’s The Salvation Army. What started as a fundraiser to help those in need during the Great Depression, has turned into an annual celebration. National Donut Day was meant to honor the “Donut Lassies”, The Salvation Army women who served donuts to soldiers in World War I.

Doughnut vs. Donut?

Spelling sticklers may argue that ‘doughnut’ is the proper spelling for the sweet treat. They are technically correct, since doughnut appeared first. Donut was originally a nicknamed spelling of doughnut. However both spellings are widely used.
