CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Too many military families know all too well that diagnoses of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (PTSD and TBI) don’t usually come with a how-to manual. Now, though, there is help and hope. Soldiers And Families Embraced (SAFE), a local non-profit that offers free professional counseling to military and their families is offering a support group for a second year designed and led by families living with PTSD and TBI.

“What we have found is that the families who welcome these Soldiers and veterans home with PTSD and TBI find themselves have no manual or guidebook and often must learn as they go how to support their wounded warrior,” said Rev. Jodi McCullah, SAFE Executive Director. “Families must learn everything from managing large amounts of medications to navigating the health care system. Being able to come together as a group and share resources and coping strategies can make a huge difference in the quality of life for the entire family.”

The support group meets Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. at New Providence United Methodist Church, 1317 Ft. Campbell Blvd., Clarksville, is free and child care is provided. This second year of the group will start up again August 20 and will follow the Montgomery County School system’s schedule.

For more information, call SAFE offices at 931-591-3241. “Each session is self-contained so folks can drop in for a session or two and ask questions if they prefer,” said McCullah.
