CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – One day after updating the public on sidewalk projects, the City of Clarksville has announced improvements in traffic and pedestrian signalizations as they continue to update the city’s infrastructure.

The following intersections have been updated or are going to be updated in the near future:

  • College Street at Fourth Street.
  • Second and College Street, Third and College Street.
  • Memorial Drive Extension and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.

Downtown pedestrian signals

A left-turn phase has been added to the existing traffic signal that allows traffic to move from College to Fourth, according to a news release. The Street Department completed work on the turn signal this week and it is currently active.

As for Second and College and Third and College, the City plans to install pedestrian signalization and marked crosswalks at each intersection.

The goal is for the signals and crosswalks to be implemented by the end of the month. The project is for the safety of pedestrians due to the growth in the area, according to the news release.

New light on MLK Parkway

Finally, an interim traffic signal will be placed at Memorial Drive Extension and MLK Parkway in August. The city has planned for this project to relieve congestion in the area, while city engineers progress toward permanent improvements.

Memorial Drive is also set to be expanded by road-widening improvements leading to MLK Parkway. The first step for this phase of the project is for the city to acquire right-of-way and easement acquisitions, which will take an estimated 18 to 24 months. Once right-of-way acquisition has completed, a permanent traffic signal will be placed at the location.
