Update, 5:10 p.m.: Traffic is mostly back to normal, with some lingering slowness.

Update, 4:45 p.m.: The interstate in Kentucky appears to be back open. There’s a backup from Exit 8 to Exit 4, but it’s clear north of Exit 4.

Update, 4:15 p.m.: Interstate 24 westbound is closed, with drivers forced off at Exit 1. Traffic is now backed up to mile marker 6.

Update, 3:50 p.m.: There’s an additional wreck on the Exit 4 off-ramp.

Update, 3:45 p.m.: I-24 is backed up because an oversized load became stuck in ongoing bridge work over the Red River, according to the KTC. The blockage is just west of the Kentucky Welcome Center, approximately 2 miles west of the state Line. The final exit before the blockage is Exit 1 to Clarksville on the Tennessee side.

Engineers are surveying the scene, and there is not an estimated duration for the blockage.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A semi-trailer is blocking Interstate 24 westbound in Kentucky, causing traffic to back up into Tennessee.

The wreck happened sometime before 1:35 p.m. near mile marker 91 in Kentucky. At 3:30 p.m., traffic was backed up past Exit 1 and Exit 4 in Tennessee.

“Authorities are on the scene working to clear the roadway, but there is no current estimate for when the interstate will reopen,” according to the Montgomery County Highway Department. “Please seek alternate routes and use caution if traveling in the area.”
